I have to admit that this is a great Printer BUT
I have had Brother Printers (many of them) for decades and when the time came to retire my MFC-9840CDW after many years of good use (it was simply cheaper to buy new rather than repair), I bought a MFC-L8690CDW and overall I am very pleased with it although I must admit that the ControlCenter4 needs to be rethought for user friendliness. However a very useful capability in scanning has been omitted and that is "custom sizing". There are loads of different pages sizes/types available (most of which are never used except for specialist places in the World) but only for the Document Feeder NOT for the Flatbed - WHY?? To not have the ability to set the paper size for the Flatbed is absolutely crazy !! Also as I mentioned slightly earlier there is no "custom sizing" facility and that really detracts from the obvious quality of the machine (ergo loss of 2 stars from me). The lack of the latter makes the scanning facility absolutely useless in some circumstances. For God's sake Brother let's have some lateral thinking in your designs & software !!!!

So far so good!
We have recently upgraded from the previous model to this one and, apart from being slower at receiving the print messages from my computer (may be my computer), it is proving to be a good workhorse. It is being used in a surveyor's office so is in constant use printing out reports and photos and the quality of the print and photos is far superior to that of its predecessor. I would also add that the cartridges also last a lot longer too. The only problem I have found is feeding large envelopes through the feeder - it is not happy with this and when it does accept it, tends to smudge the print. I will re-read the manual on this and see if it's me rather than the printer.

Brother L8690CDW - Superb
We have owned this printer for the past few weeks now and can vouch for the printers effectiveness.
Very easy to connect to PC's using either driver downloads from Brother or via the included disc.
Print quality is excellent, with vivid colour and sharp text. We required a printer with duplex scanning and printing, and this model matches our requirements superbly. Choosing a printer with all of these features is a minefield, and it took a while to pick a unit. We are very happy with the Brother L8690CDW.
This printer includes more settings than we need at the moment but as the business grows no doubt we will utilise them in the future.
The only downside is the weight at 36kg. It needed 2 people to unpack without damaging the packaging, but can be lifted by 1 person once unpacked. We have the printer sited on a filing cabinet, and seems quite happy working away up there!

Has changed my Life!
I splurged on this model after years of having cheap inkjet printer/scanners at home and don't regret it one bit. Quality of the printing is excellent. I can scan multiple page documents at home and email them anywhere. It is super reliable and sturdy. I have had Brothers before in the States and I think it is one of the top two brands (the other I won't buy anymore). In the end it is worth the investment - so much better than inkjet printers.

Great printer
wanted a multi-purpose printer to replace my ageing Inkjet. Looked for something that could do lots of printing without having to keep adding paper an ink. Great printer for the price and capabability
