Beautiful Product but Max. Volume Insufficient
I set this up in advance in preparation for my daughter's birthday so that when she takes it out of the box, it's all ready to go. I don't have the phone application but it worked very easily on the computer from my account space on the Tonies website with an ordinary internet connection. There was an error message at the last step and the window seemed to freeze saying it had not worked, but I ignored this and in actual fact, it had successfully completed the installation process. I had to look at several Youtube tutorials in the process, which helped! It functions perfectly offline, which was what I wanted. The box itself is beautiful, well-finished, nice to hold with the padded leather-type material covering on all sides; the figurines are solid, well-made and adorable, and the stories I chose are beautifully-narrated in a classic style, with background sounds/music which contribute to the enjoyment of listening. There are a couple of reasons I do not give 5 stars: Disappointed one cannot buy any Tonies story from any Tonies store except from the country in which one lives. For instance, the USA store is the only place to find the wonderful "Peter and the Wolf" narrated by David Bowie but there is no way to get this one unless one has visiting friends or relatives who can bring it in their suitcase. Seeing as the French, English, American etc. Tonies all work on the same box, why not have a universal store? Another reason is that the sound levels are not the same on all the Tonies. For most of them the maximum volume is fine but for a couple of Tonies I have bought, the volume is significantly lower than the others and there is no way of raising the volume because it's already on full. I checked that both headphone and speaker volume were at 100% on the control panel via my Tonies account but in spite of that, the maximum volume remains rather low. Out of 10 Tonies purchased, 2 of them (Paddington and the Gruffalo - such a shame because they are so well-read and deserve to be heard better) play too softly. In my opinion, the maximum volume should be much higher to allow for these differences. After all if parents are supposed to be capable of reducing the maximum volume, why not give us some room for manoeuvre? Also it would be great to find more music-content Tonies and to expand the selection of stories/music to include content from Africa, Asia, Russia, the Middle East etc. The story narrated by Meryl Streep is simply gorgeous - more like this please! I am delighted with this purchase and am sure my daughter will get hours of enjoyment and learning from it.
