Disappointing recirculation.
Although this hood looks very nice, I must agree that the lack of a backlight on the control panel is a serious oversight, especially for a fan of this quality.
However, even worse is the recommended recirculation starter kit and long life filter.
DO NOT GO THERE!
The starter kit comes with a carbon filter that greatly increase the fan speed and noise, also reducing the air flow.
The long life filter, which I presumed had to be purchased to go with the starter kit is a disaster.
It restricts the flow to such an extent that the fan speeds up on number 1 setting to about P2 speed making it very very noisy.
Settings P1 and P2 are rendered useless because the fan is already working flat out.
Complete waste of money and unbelievable that Neff would sell something this bad.

Operating Symbols on Fascia Panel NOT Illuminated
This N70 model is an upgraded version to the one I originally ordered. It works fine, but the operating symbols on the black fascia are not all lit, especially the on/off and hood lighting symbols. These should be lit as the bare minimum. I have queried with the retail outlet I used and was told that this minimal lighting display is the NEFF design. I cannot believe this as I have seen over images on this NEFF website, which shows all symbols on the fascia lit up. The only symbols, which light up on my hood are the air volume and programme settings (P).

Control Panel lighting Surprisingly Poor
The cooker hood appearance is lovely. The functionality of the extractor is badly let down though by the lack of illumination of the flat surface 'buttons' that are the controls and to me reminds me every time I use it how poorly designed it is.
They are only individually illuminated when active, and without illumination are very difficult to locate when not active without strong ambient lighting - You essentially have to remember where they are!
Ideally a touch to the panel would illuminate all of the buttons to some degree with the active ones becoming brighter. As you will see from my image, I have had to add a tactile sticker to find the power button.
Another useful thing to know which isn';t made apparent anywhere pre-purchase:
150mm ducting + c. 100% efficiency
125mm = 85%
100mm = 65%

Difficult fitting filter kit
We have waited long time for ouder filter kit to arrive. After an hour and half taking the chimney down and fitting kit only to find the overhang prevented the chimney going back to wall the only way to get over this is to put kit in backwards but now we not only have to take down chimney to replace filter but take the whole kit apart very bad design feature
If we had known that the extractor had to be taken apart to fit ouder filter we would not have purchased this not looking forward to 18 months time when it needs replacement

Sleek, stylish near-silent
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We had to replace our lovely 19-year old Neff extractor hood with a recirculating model. It looks extremely smart and perfectly matches the new Neff induction hob and twin ovens. It's much quieter, has excellent efficiency ratings and the lighting illuminates the whole induction hob very clearly. Fitting was straightforward with clear instructions. A practically and visually pleasing purchase up to Neff's high standards.

Excellent Hood -But !
The hood is excellent and works well in our kitchen. My only concern is the lack of background lighting on the control panel when switched on. The display panel is black and in less than full lighting it can be difficult to read the panel. Suggest future redesign to include background lighting.

Disappointing
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Unfortunatley when we purchased this we did not realise the difficulty of fitting the ouder filter would be.
After trying to purchase the said filter, and being told it was no longer available and we would have to purchase each item seperately and build our own, the customer service team at Neff managed to find us one.
This was only the beginning of the issue we had.
Fitting of the Ouder filter kit is not easy you have to dismantle the chimney without damanging the top of cooker hood and then fit the housing for filter from the top of hood not easy thing to do I am not looking forward to taking it all down to change the filter
surely the access should be from under the hood as all other cooker hoods are
Would not have purchased this if we had known difficulty of fitler fitting

Quality Product With one Design Flaw
Stylish, quiet and well made, it has made a nice centre piece and focal point to our Kitchen. As Neff has specified, ours is vented using a 6 inch pipe to allow maximum efficiency and also help keep fan quiet as possible.
The one draw back has been highlighted (no pun intended) in previous reviews, the lack of illumination on the control panel is very frustrating, and like many I initially thought there was a fault with the hood. Would have given 5 stars otherwise.
