Good , BUT ...
The on board freezing system (including the container) is great ... BUT
- it does not make small quantities well eg 500ml
- the control panel easily gets confused
- it comes with only the most minimal instructions
- it offers very little recipe advice
- as it hardens the ice cream rides up the paddle until there is a gap between it and the freezing surface ... then churning ceases ... so the 'hardness' is never measured
- it incorporates very little air ... therefore ice cream stored in the freezer is rock hard
All in all I expect more for the money

SO HAPPY WITH THIS GREAT MACHINE THAT HAS MADE THE CHILDREN SO HAPPY !!!
Best icecream maker I have owned. Helps not having a bowl to freeze. Extremely solid and robust, not too loud and I have made Yogurt, Sorbet and icecream. Sits on work top permanently alongside my other Sage products. Only downside I did have to download instructions and recipes. It is definitely a work-horse and I use it most days. It does let you know when to add additionsl ingredients eg alcohol and raisins, etc. I have already been recommending this to friends, esp from JL. Before I bought, I did read the Which report and again good reviews. Just love it..

Ice cream maker
This product does make ice cream and reasonable sorbet.
However it takes a considerable time to run machine before ice cream is ready and consistency is still soft scoop.
I found if you placed in freezer afterwards and left to harden that you had a crystallised outcome so not perfect .
I wouldn’t choose to buy this product again as I feel there are cheaper options out there that do as good a job and disappointing that the model supplied to me didn’t have ice cream chime facility .
The machine is very heavy so consider if you have enough room to store on work surface before purchasing .

The Nicest Ice Cream Made Easy
Fabulous ice cream maker that’s very easy to use and produces well churned delicious ice cream every time. I’m very pleased with my Sage Smart Scoop, even in the hot summer it coped well, still able to produce wonderful ice cream that tastes so much better than any shop bought ice cream. For quick and easy ice cream use a tin of condensed milk, a cup of milk and a 300 ml pot of whipping cream or double cream along with a teaspoon of vanilla to make a litre of vanilla ice cream. Mix together in a jug and pour into the Smart Scoop pan when it’s ready, then press start and wait for the nicest ice cream ever. The ice cream is edible and soft on the hardest setting, it needs to be soft enough to get it out and into an ice cream container to go into the freezer. You can add swirls of other things at this stage, like fruit sauces or hazelnut chocolate spread. I just wish this ice cream maker came with a recipe book, but there are lots of ice cream recipe books out there. One thing I do like about this Sage one is the delightful ice cream van tune at the end, it makes me smile every time.

A New Joy to Ice Cream making.
My twelve year old ice cream maker developed a fault which could not be repaired. After reading various reviews I decided to buy the ^Sage Smart Scoop^ which had the features of the old machine plus several more. I was pleased find the instructions included with the machine were easy to follow and comprehensive. I also found the Sage UK website had many recipes which I downloaded and found useful.
This machine is a great step forward over my old machine expecially the ability to preset firmness of the ice cream. I feel the breakdown of my previous machine which gave me such joy was perhaps a blessing in disguise.
To make the most of this machine I would recommend Caroline and Robin Weir^s book ^Ice Creams, Sorbets & Gelati^. which contains all the recipes for a lifetime in addition to much additional information such converting double cream to whipping cream where the latter is scarce.
I thoroughly recommend this machine as a means to obtain home made ice cream which surpasses the commercial commercial product and you also know what went into it!

Delighted
I have used the Smart Scoop several tines now. So far only made icecream. User instructions are easy to follow. Results are consistent. Machine is pricey .... you are paying for quality. It is not too noisy and you can easily hear when the icecream is finished. I really like the keep cool feature. When my grandchildren visit there is a useful child lock button. Recipes are online .... would be nice to have had a wee recipe booklet. Delighted with the machibe and look forward to experimenting with different recipes.

A must buy for ice cream lovers
Firstly, this is a beautiful machine. Looks great on my kitchen island! And secondly, more importantly, its extremely easy to use and easy to clean. I have made ice cream and froyo so far. Love the ice cream van sound at the end of the cycle. I would have liked a recipe book to be sent with the machine. A must buy for any ice cream lover!

Yet another Sage product fail.
The Smart Scoop just packed up and wouldn't work after a very short life - but long enough to take it over the warranty stage. This is the 3rd Sage product fail and don't think we will purchase again.
