This is a very good DVD player. It plays a huge variety of formats which is hard to find on other makes.
A DVD player needs to be capable to process the picture in order to be able to fill a large TV screen - I have a 65" TV and therefore I need a capable DVD. I can certainly say that the processor on this DVD player is very good. There are better ones out there but this is no slouch.
I have a Sony TV and a nice feature is that the remote for the TV is compatible with the DVD player.
The build quality is very good and the design is very understated. The player is very thin and when switched off has a completely blank front.

Great picture quality but Dolby Vision needs work!
Bought this a few weeks ago with the updated firmware that supports Dolby Vision.
Overall great image quality. The set is a bit basic in bulid and much smaller that the UBP-X800 with no digital display or screen on the set.
However one huge advatange is that with a firmware update it supports Dolby Vision. This is, however SEVERELY hampered - unfortunately, the unit does not auto-switch when you play a Dolby Vision disc which means that a) the switching has to be done manually from the menu and b) if you don’t know a disc has Dolby Vision and you don't therefore activate it in the menu, you miss out on the benefits (it can be quite difficult to see on Blu Ray discs whether a Dolby Vision signal is included)
Sony - this could be an excellent product... please come up with a firmware update that auto-switches Dolby Vision on when it detects a Dolby Vision signal!!

Love it
We have just replaced a 8 year old sony bluray player. This one is silent, fast and responsive.
I like that you can get rid of all the smart features. I dont want that on a bluray player. Really impressed.

Great Picture, USB and network lacks functions
This was purchased to allow me to play my library (> 1TB) of 4K content on a USB HDD or via my networked PC. Most of the content is in MKV or MP4 format and much of the content exceeds 2 hours in duration. It plays them all and the picture quality is excellent, HOWEVER there appears to be no way to navigate chapters and no way to skip to a specific time. If you play any other content then the player forgets where you have reached. If I play the same content through the USB port of my LG TV it remembers where I have reached, (even if I switch off and disconnect) AND it allows me to skip forwards and backwards.
This seems to be an omission for a unit that plays USB and networked sources.

Good product with lots of features
I bought this player to upgrade from DVD to Blu-Ray. It provides excellent pictures and sound. In fact it has some features that I do not use and probably never will, but other purchasers may see benefit from them.

Good quality picture, difficult to connect to wifi
I bought this blu ray player in January and have tried numerous times to connect it to the WiFi. I bought new HDMI cables and upgraded the WiFi but still it will not connect. The picture quality is excellent.

Compact, easy to use product but in my view very fragile because of poor quality materials.
Come on Sony, I would rather pay more for better quality

Quality control ?
Unfortunately this is another poor Sony product I’ve purchased over the past 2 years. Both of which became faulty a couple of months out of warranty. Just about every movie I watch on it freezes several times. Then the machine switches itself off. So then I have to go through the process of reloading and going through the disc menus to find the part of the movie it froze on, and continue watching. I’m very disappointed in recent Sony purchases. Lots of owners online have encountered the same issue.
